Ibrahim Hussein

Ibrahim was appointed in July 2020 as the first Chairman and Chief Executive of the newly established Somali Petroleum Authority which is mandated by the Government to ensure the responsible and sustainable development of the Somali oil and gas industry. The regulatory and fiscal regime being developed will apply the principles of equality, openness, accountability, transparency and non-discrimination in the interests of all the Somali people.

Prior to this appointment Ibrahim was Senior Economic Advisor to The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of the Federal Republic of Somalia. He was appointed in November 2014, playing a leading role in the development of the regulatory and commercial framework for the development of the oil and gas industry.

This included analyzing macro-economic data and providing economic advice to the Ministry, leading the team involved in the review of the Petroleum Law, the Production Sharing Agreement model and representing the Ministry in the revenue sharing discussions. Ibrahim has been a Chairman of National Steering Committee of Oil for Development Programme. In this role, he has significantly contributed to the institutional building process of the Ministry.
