Environment
The SPA recognises the potential impact of the development of a petroleum industry on the environment and is committed to mitigating any risk to the land, ocean or biodiversity. It is developing policies around environmental controls to which every contractor and partner will adhere. Close and constant monitoring of all environmental indicators will be established, and regular independent audits of contractors and partners will be conducted. The SPA will take a zero-tolerance approach to any breaches of the standards set out in its policies.
Somalia’s marine environment is comprised of diverse ecosystems and species. This could be impacted by offshore exploration, development and production activities. The protection of these marine systems and species is a top priority for the SPA given their biological, commercial and amenity value.
The SPA will work with all international partners to ensure all operations of petroleum are aligned to stringent Governnmentenvironmental policies.
